A NOVEL WAY TO NOT BE FOUND GUILTY ..... REFUSE TO SHOW UP IN COURT

By Bob Walsh

Deputy Dan Smith places handcuffs on Utah County Jail inmate Marcos Flores as Flores waits in the dental chair to have an infected tooth extracted.

If he doesn't want to go to court, he's not going to be forced to go

Dennis James Duree, 39, is a denizen of the People's Republic of San Francisco.  He is current a guest of the people in the county jail, accused of and on trial for stabbing to people in the Mission District last year.  One of his victims died.

Duree is simple refusing to leave jail to show up for court.  And he is not the only one.

The policy of the S.F. Sheriff's Office, which handles such things, is now to NOT forcibly move prisoners to court.  The only exceptions are if there is a specific court order directing that a specific inmate be produced in court at a specific date and time.  That is not normally done.

Duree has refused to go to court eight times.  He has also refused to meet with his court-appointed lawyers.  The court has thus far refused to order his appearance by physical force if necessary.

This seems to be a deliberate ploy by some defendants in hopes of discouraging and / or pissing off witnesses to the point where they say FUCK IT and quit showing up in court themselves.

Duree's ninth arraignment is scheduled for this coming Thursday.  He is looking at 40-life if convicted on all charges, which seems likely considering the evidence.
