A DUBIOUS HONOR AT BEST

4 Million Acres Of Charcoal

by Bob Walsh

The formerly great state of California will soon have lost 31 people and 4 million acres of real estate to wild fires in the last five weeks.  This is more land than the entire state of Connecticut.

Decent size towns have been completely evacuated.  The air across much of California is so foul it is dangerous for healthy people.  The smoke has been detected in Great Britain.

There are currently more than 17,000 fire fighters battling more than a dozen major fires and many lesser blazes.  Roughly 1,000 buildings have been destroyed including several hundred private homes.

The combination of high winds, low humidity, dry lightning strikes and high fire load due to shitty forest management practices have created circumstances that make these fires easy to start and quick to spread.  "Global climate change" and Donald Trump are being blamed for much of this situation.

It is not likely to get any better until the rains start.
