The
city council of Seattle, WA. voted on Tuesday to cut the funding of the
police department by 18%. The mayor vetoed the action but the council
overrode his veto by a vote of 7.2 in an hours-long special session of
the council. While this was going on two stabbing occurred within
blocks of city hall. One person was stabbed in the neck by a repeat
offender dingdong. At the same time a public outreach housing case
manager was found face down with a knife in her back, deader than
dogshit. I guess whoever she was counselling didn't feel like he needed
help.
The budget action
will result in the Seattle P D losing 100 positions. The $3 million
represented will be "repurposed" to community programs. I wonder how
long it will take them to fill the housing case manger open position?
Suspects are in custody in both stabbing attacks.
Just imagine the organized crime rackets that could be set up in Seattle. If I had any criminal intent I would move to there.
