CAPE CAROL, FLORIDA: A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly shooting at one of his roommates, who fell asleep naked next to his teenage daughter after a night of heavy drinking. Dayne Victor Miller was charged on Wednesday, March 8, with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, authorities announced.

 

Officers from the Cape Coral Police Department responded at approximately 12.32 am to a 911 call regarding suspected gunshots at a residence located in the 1000 block of SW 1st Street. The caller, later identified as Miller, told the dispatcher that he had “shot at two individuals inside his home through a bedroom door.” “Mr. Miller called dispatch and said that one of his roommates was naked in his teenage daughter’s bedroom, which sparked him to shoot at both roommates through a closed bedroom door,” the press release from the department stated as per Law & Crime.

Why Miller’s roommate went into his daughter’s bedroom?

Upon their arrival, officers released the two victims, who were identified as a married couple renting a bedroom in Miller’s home, where he lived with his wife and teen daughter. The roommate told authorities that he drank too much earlier in the night and mistakenly went into the bedroom of Miller’s teen daughter. The victim said he soon took his clothes and got into the bed with the teen, Crime Online reported.

At some point, the teen woke up to find the naked man in her bedroom and rushed to alert her father. Police said, before Miller found the man, his wife woke him up and “shouted that the room the victim was in was not their shared room.” “Once they returned to their room, Mr. Miller approached their bedroom and began pounding on the door shouting, ‘I’ll kill you,’ after the door was shut and locked on him,” the release stated. It added, “That is when Mr. Miller shot his handgun 3-4 times into the floor outside the bedroom door in a rage.”

What police found at the crime scene?

As per the release, the officers on the scene reported finding “shell casings and bullet holes through the bedroom door of the victims.” They also noted that Miller’s daughter “did not allege a crime had occurred against her” when the naked man was in her bed. Miller is currently held at the Lee County Jail. His bond had not been set as of Thursday morning, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 10 for his arraignment.
