Fernando Villavicencio's assassin lies mortally wounded
Fernando Villavicencio, 59, was running for El Presidente
in Ecuador when he was assassinated last Wednesday. He was an
outspoken opponent of the violent drug cartels and general corruption
plaguing the country. He wasn't exactly a front-runner but he was a
serious candidate.
Six arrests have been made in the murder. One of the suspects did not survive being arrested.
Villabicencio
had filed numerous corruption complaints against members of the current
and recent past governments. He recently did 18 months in the slammer
for defamation of the current president, Rafael Correa.
I
suspect the rumor that our president has sent a fact finding mission to
Ecuador to find out how to throw political opponents into prison is
just a rumor. Probably.\
