WHOOPS

By Bob Walsh

Passenger oxygen masks hang from the roof next to a missing window and a portion of a side wall of an Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, which had been bound for Ontario, California and suffered depressurization soon after departing, in Portland, Oregon,

It appears that the door plug that blew out of an Alaska Airlines plane a few weeks back was in fact NOT bolted into place.  The FAA is not amused.  I can't say that I blame them.  One would think that the guys who put the skin on the outside and the inside would take a look to make sure things like that were taken care of just in case the person who was supposed to be checking it missed it.  They are very lucky that no one was sucked out of the plane when that happened or somebody might be looking at a manslaughter beef.

I often watch a program on The Smithsonian Channel titled Airline Disasters.  It is truly remarkable the amount of stupid shit that goes on in that industry.  It is also truly remarkable how crews manage to pull situations back from the brink of disaster with a fair degree of frequency.

I still don't like to fly.  I occasionally do it but I don't like it.  The last airliner I flew on was a Ford Trimotor.  That should tell you something about how seldom I fly.
