The
Trump administration today acted to revoke Harvard's ability to enroll
foreign students and to keep those foreign students they current have.
The state department has announced that any current Harvard students
will have their visas revoked if they attempt to stay at Harvard.
The
administration at Harvard is screaming that this is illegal. Since it
is in fact a function of foreign policy I strongly suspect that Trump
will win on the showdown that is almost certain to come. I fully expect
that Harvard will find a federal district judge to order the Trump
administration to back off. The Trump administration will then
(correctly IMHO) tell the federal district court that they have zero
legal authority to conduct or order or implement or dick with foreign
policy. The Trump administration will appeal and will win and will in
the interim refuse to obey the order.
Slightly more than 25% of Harvard's student body are here on foreign student visas.
