Valero is shutting down its oil refinery in Benicia in April of next year.
Regular
readers will remember I wrote some months ago about as new piece of
legislation signed into law in CA that allowed the state to fine "big
oil" for excessive profits (without saying exactly what that was) and
requiring CA refiners to set up major storage operations to help smooth
out the speed bumps in the supply of refined petroleum products in the
state. Like you can just build a 200,000 gallon fuel storage tank just
anywhere.
In an event the
governor and the legislature of the formerly great state of CA have been
trying to assist in the sale of two refineries that are going to close
down in CA next year, taking about 18% of CA refining capacity along
with them. Strangely nobody seems to be interested in buying an
operating these facilities in the current political-regulatory
environment. Ain't that some shit?
So,
the governor just managed to run thru a 5-year stall on enacting the
legislation. I have no idea whether or not that lead time is sufficient
to get anybody interested or not but when the price of gas goes up 50%
in CA Gavin just KNOWS it will harm his chances to become President,
which he wants desperately to do.
Gas
and guns. Gavin hates them both. But he knows that a lot of real
Americans need one and like the other. He can't be elected solely by
the lunatic left and he probably actually knows that. So, will he throw
out some bullshit and hope enough people believe it to sink Trump's
agenda in the midterms and carry him to glory in 2028? Probably. He
sure as hell can't run on his record.
