Lisa Cook is, or was, a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.  Her exact status is at question right now.
She
may have just been fired by Donald Trump over allegations that she
committed mortgage fraud.  She, and her lawyer, assert that Trump has no
authority to fire her and that she has no intention of leaving.
There
seems to be little doubt that Trump has the authority to fire any
employee of the executive branch if sufficient cause exists.  Does an
allegation, probably having some level of support, meet that threshold?
I guess it depends who you ask.
If
she refuses to physically leave AND Trump attempts to physically remove
her this could get interesting.  I doubt that Trump would send the U.
S. Marshalls to physically throw a Black female out of her office, but
you never know.
The stock market is reacting poorly to the situation.
