Romy Reiner and Rob Reiner
At about 3 p.m. on Sunday the LAPD were called to the
home of Rob Reiner and his wife in Brentwood, Los Angeles. They were
apparently both stabbed to death. They were called by someone inside
the home.
The cops are thus
far declining to identify the dead people or anything about the manner
of death. They are saying they have not arrested anybody and are not
detaining anybody in the deaths.
Both Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom have identified Reiner and his wife as the decedents.
It
seems unlikely in the extreme that this was a murder-suicide. It also
seems unlikely that somebody stabbed two dead bodies a bunch of times.
It therefore seems most likely the manner of death was homicide.
The
Chief of Detectives, whose name I forget and who was completely
forgettable, said there will be another press conference Monday
sometime. The first one, given at the scene about 9 p.m. local time,
was completely uninformative. As is to be expected at that stage of the
investigation unless they had a suspect in custody and a confession.
I
somehow doubt the lack of information is comforting to the neighbors,
though multiple knife wounds to each person suggests a personal as
opposed to a professional killing or a murder in the course of a robbery
or burglary.
ADDENDUM:
Nick Reiner
Various radio news reports are now saying that the Reiner's son Nick is
"in custody" for the murders. They are also saying that the Reiner's
daughter Romy found the bodies. Nick is 32 and is a well-known drug
user.
