Renee DiPietro
Renee DiPietro, 70, is facing charges for stabbing a man to death with the sword hidden inside her cane.
The
cops showed up to the intersection of Cricket Ave and Cricket Terrace
in Philadelphia, PA two months ago in responses to the call of a
stabbing. They found Michael Sides, 31, down in the street bleeding.
He died at a nearby hospital.
It
seems that Sides was at the time of the incident in search of Jason
DiPietro, Renee's son, for some sort of payback for assaulting a buddy
of Sides. Jason and Michael came together as Jason was attempting to
enter a car containing his mom's and a fight ensued. Renee got out of
the vehicle to "defend her son." She thumped Michael a couple of times
with the cane when the lower separated from the upper, leaving the blade
exposed. She then stabbed him a time or three.
Renee
is being held pending $500,000 bail and is charged with involuntary
manslaughter and possession of a crime instrument. (Sword canes are
illegal in many states.)

A crime instrument? I keep a machete in my truck to cut brush. Is it a tool or a crime instrument?
Depends how you use it I suppose. A lot of people carry a "tire thumper" in their car in CA because it is illegal to carry a baton or similar "weapon."
