An outfit out of Texas, a non-profit called the Youth
Peace and Justice Foundation, claims to have mediated a 21-day cease
fire between four major gangs in Stockton. The meeting was allegedly
attended by one or more "community leaders" and one or more members of
the clergy. City officials were not invited. Press was deliberately
excluded. The cops would not have come even if they had been invited.
NO elected city officials were invited or present. The actual location
was not disclosed.
I grant you that I am more than a tad suspicious of such things, maybe without justification.
The
YPJF is asserting that they have now done the heavy lifting and that it
is up to the city to put things together, and are asserting that any
future trouble will be the fault of the politicians not doing their job
(rather than armed dangerous criminals shooting up kid's birthday
parties).
