Since the formerly great state of California has enacted its background check for ammunition purchases they have run 345,547 checks for ammo purchasers. Of those, about 62,000 have been rejected. Of those, 101 were for actual prohibited persons. All of the others were for what are generally described as errors or omissions in the DOJ data base. Most of these are generated due to people having not bought a gun recently and the address at which you bought your last gun does not line up with your current address.
There is a $1 fee charged for each background check. If you are not correctly in the system you have the honor and privilege of paying $19 to get yourself into the system.
This new program was running a 18% false rejection rate up until about 90 days ago, when they got it down to a paltry 15%.

Hey Bob, if you should need some ammo, just come on over and get some.
I will remember that. Thanks. It is illegal to self-import ammo, but I have a sneaking hunch it is being done. A lot.
