Jeff Van Drew is a freshman congressman from somewhere or other in New Jersey. It seems that he is getting ready to switch party affiliation. He has been pretty open in his opposition to the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Governor Murphy has said he thinks Van Drew is a rat-bastard for changing sides just to save his gig, so he must be doing something right.
It is expected that he will make the change in the coming week. Had he not done so it is very likely he would have been primaried in his own party for his opposition to the impeachment. The change will give him the opportunity to run unopposed in a primary as an incumbent.
Van Drew was one of two Democrats who voted against proceeding with the impeachment inquiry. Since it is almost certain the actual vote to impeach will be held this week he would have the chance to vote against it as either a Democrat or a Republican depending on how soon he jumps. The Democraps are urging him to stay in the party. He has been trying at least to some extent to get a few more to follow his lead.
Right now it is expected that at least five or six Democrats will vote NO on the impeachment vote, and possibly a tad more than that.
