The captain of the dive ship Concepcion was just found guilty of Seaman's Manslaughter in a ten-day trial in Los Angeles.
Jerry
Boylan, 69, is looking at the possibility of ten years as a guest of
the feds for failure to post a night watch on the vessel where 33
passengers and one crew member died when a fire swept thru the lower
deck, blocking the two available exits slightly over four years ago. He
had also made minimal, if any, efforts to train his crew in fire
suppression and emergency response.
Boylan
either abandoned ship or inadvertently went overboard while trying to
assist depending on who you ask. He was uninjured. The United States
Attorney called his actions "unpardonable cowardice."
He will be sentenced February 8.
