The local constabulary here in Stockton came up against
two bad guys in the last two days who were armed with knives who also
did not want to go along with the program. It did not end as well for
them as it might have.
At
about 8 p.m. on Sunday the cops responded to a call of a man with a
knife on the 1600 block of E. Bianchi Road. When the cops showed up
they found the man and a woman suffering from stab wounds. The man
refused to drop the knife and may (or may not) have indicated he was
interested in stabbing more people. The cops ventilated his ass. Both
are in the hospital in critical condition.
Another
incident occurred about 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Sierra Vista housing
project on E. 11th St. One officer responded to the call and saw a man
armed with a toad sticker attempting to stab a woman. The cop shot the
man. The woman had stab wounds. The woman has since been released from
the hospital. The man is still in the hospital. Their five children
are now guests of the county.
No names have been released on any of the dramatis personae, except for the cop in the Sierra Vista incident.

I know a retired TABC Agent that is an edged weapons expert. I've always believed in the adage of not taking a knife to a gun fight. There are exceptions and my former partner is that exception. Some of our in-service training used a rubber K-Bar knife which had a red marker on the blade side. 21' was the distance that Agents had to shoot an advancing knife wielding suspect at the blow of a whistle. I wish I had a video of the training. Most of the agents on the gun side did find the red stain from the knife when the exercise was over. It was eye opening to say the least. My former partner has taught police and corrections officers how to avoid being cut or at least minimizing the chance of a serious wound. Even though he is getting older, Mike stays in shape and focused. Last year he completed the Bataan Death March contest at White Sands NM and even broke a record for the over 60 age group. I recommended him for Agent off the year in early nineties and he was selected. Then Governor George W. Bush presented Mike with the award.
