UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

By Bob Walsh

1mil Heavy Duty Plstic Thank You Supermarket Shopping Plastic Grocery Bags for Take out

It was ten years ago that the formerly great state of California decreed that no longer could grocery stores give you a free single-use plastic grocery bag.  If you wanted one you got a heavy-duty one which cost you a dime so you wouldn't just throw it away.

It has recently been determined that the amount of plastic garbage in the waste stream has increased by 47% by weight in the last ten years.  Much of this increase is....wait for it....here it comes....the "new" heavy duty repeat use grocery bags.  People are giving the the store their dime and then chucking the bags any way.

The state is now planning to move to close this loop hole by outlawing ALL plastic grocery bags.

When grocery bags are outlawed only outlaws will have grocery bags.

I hate the produce bags. I can't open them. Now I just place my produce in my basket and let the checker deal with it. I never use self checkout.
