EDITOR'S NOTE: Trey Rusk submitted the following story along with this article.
After Hurricane Ike I was volunteered by the Task Force to surveil this area due to a significant increase in criminal activity. I hid my U/C pickup truck in the shadows with windows down listening and watching for thieves and murderers.
Just before dawn a Galveston PD unit and an ambulance stopped a block East of me. There was a body thrown from the Seawall with a slashed throat. My boss pulled up and wanted to know what I heard or saw. I told him all I heard was mosquitos all night long.
Has it occurred to anyone that the victim might have been there before we started the operation? Turns out I was wrong. Time of death showed it was during the operation. I never heard a thing and the crime scene wasn’t in my line of sight.
A fisherman saw the blood and called the cops.
I sure got the business at the operation briefing!
Rest in Peace.
