TIMELY INTERVENTION

By Bob Walsh

It is my understanding that many street cops go an entire career without intervening in an on-view felony. However, sometimes the cavalry shows up in the nick of time.

Just after 0700 on Wednesday the cops came across the aftermath of a traffic accident. They observed Daniel Rynazewski, of San Jose, chasing his 62-year-old mother thru a front yard. He had an axe in his hands.

He hit his mom in the back with the axe and she fell. The cops opened fire on him and he fell. He then got back up and picked up the axe. One of the cops nailed him with a “stun gun” but that didn’t work, and he hit his mom in the head with the axe. The cops then ventilated him.

Both mom and son are in the hospital in stable condition. The two San Jose PD officers are on routine paid administrative leave.

Stun Guns were supposed to be the greatest things since the beer. I guess not, again.

I admit I am unsure that a "stun gun" is an appropriate weapon to use on a guy who is about to cave his mom's head in with an axe.
