FORMER COP SENTENCED TO DEATH IN DOUBLE HOMICIDE

by Bob Walsh

A former Sheriff's Deputy and Corrections Officer in Missouri was sentenced to death Friday for the murder of his ex-girl friend and her new boy friend.

Marvin Rice was sentenced to die for the murder of Annette Duirham in 2011 and also to life in the murder of the new boyfriend, Steven Strotkamp, 39, The jury found Rice guilty back in August but deadlocked in the penalty phase, which under Missouri law left the decision up to the judge, Kelly Wayne Parker of St. Charles County. Rice had been employed in Dent County and the crimes occurred there, the trial was moved due to Rice's job there.

The beef was over custody of their son. Ms. Durham got knocked up by Rice while she was a guest of the people (prisoner) and Rice was a Sheriff's Deputy. Ms. Dunham was a junkie at the time.

At the time of the shooting Ms. Dunham was having an unsupervised visit at her home with the child. Another child by a former relationship and the new boyfriend were present when Rice showed up. He shot and killed both adults and took his son and then left. He was apprehended after a high-speed chase. There was no formal custody arrangement in place at the time of the murders.
