IN-COURT SUICIDE

by Bob Walsh

Slobodan Praljak, 72, was on trial in The Hague. Accused of various nasty war crimes during the war in the former Yugoslavia, the Croat was not happy with his 20 year sentence so he swallowed the contents of a small bottle of poison in court. He died. No loss. He had been in custody for quite some period of time and it is unclear how he managed to get the poison.

All five of his fellow defendants were also convicted and had their sentences confirmed.

So far the tribunal has indicted 161 war crimes suspects. So far 90 of those have been convicted.
