S.C. CORRECTIONAL OFFICER CHARGED WITH SETTING UP INMATE ASSAULT

by Bob Walsh

Alicia Nicole Smith used to be a Sergeant at the Broad River Correctional Institution near Columbia, South Carolina. She was sacked after she was charged with opening an inmate's cell door to allow him to be attacked.

There is apparently video showing Sgt. Smith opening the cell door. 11 inmates entered the cell and thumped the occupant. The facility houses male inmates who are in for violence and doing long sentences or who have been assholes in other settings.

Smith was charged as being an accessory before the fact of felony assault and battery by a mob as well as misconduct in office. After her arrest she was sacked by the department.

I am guessing the cell occupant was not a nice person. That does not excuse her behavior.
