Sting Operation?
One IDF unit is uniquely at home on the northern border, in readiness 24/7 year round.
Over the last few days, Hezbollah, the terrorist organization that operates out of Lebanon, has been making serious threats against Israel.
To sum them up:
They want to destroy Israel, starting by invading the Upper Galilee region.
They plan to do this by sending in small commando units on foot/motorcycle to take over Israeli villages nearest the Lebanese border, aiming to hold Israeli citizens as hostages, while raining bombs down on the cities of northern Israel.
Israel is carefully listening to these threats and has come up with a multi-layered strategy to defend itself. Part of the strategy is the “Devorah” IDF reserve unit.
The unit is made up of reserve combat soldiers – citizens living in the Upper Galilee region who know the area like the back of their hand and have volunteered to serve in this reserve unit. The special unit is on call 24/7, 365 days a year, prepared to defend against any hostile attack in the area – by responding within 30 minutes from getting called upon.
These warriors are formed into sub-units in every village, with their combat equipment and weaponry ready to go at a moment’s notice.
Another mind boggling fact is that, while being continuously on call, most of these men have families and are running businesses. They are uniquely motivated to protect their country and by the same token, protect their very homes and families at the same time.
The unit is named in honor of a woman fighter who fell defending the Jewish settlements of the Galilee in 1920. Her name was Deborah (Devorah) Drechler. Devorah means bee.
