A gang of masked robbers unleashed a shocking, coordinated smash-and-grab attack on Kim Hung Jewelry in East San Jose, California on Friday afternoon.

The group slammed a stolen SUV in reverse straight through the shop's glass storefront in broad daylight before storming in with hammers and axes to smash up display cases containing gold and jewelry.

The brazen attack was caught in jaw-dropping surveillance footage and shows the moment the vehicle crashes through the front of the family-run business.

As the dust settles, nearly a dozen robbers wearing dark hoodies and face coverings stormed into the store swinging tools into the glass cases, yanking gold and jewels with ruthless efficiency.

In one horrifying frame of the video, the 88-year-old owner who could only look on in horror was shoved violently to the ground by one of the assailants. The criminals simply stepped over him as they continued their rampage.

According to a post on X, the victim is the uncle of a local resident.

'My friend's 88-year-old uncle's San Jose Jewelry Store was robbed on Fri 9/5 at 2 p.m.,' the post reads. 'They ran a truck through the store and then pushed him down. He was injured by broken glass and then had a stroke.'

Police have not confirmed the extent of the man's injuries, saying only that they 'do not have any details to provide at this time'.

The family-run Kim Hung Jewelry has been a staple of the Vietnamese-American community in San Jose for decades.

'This attack was not just on a store - it was on the dignity of our elders, the safety of our neighborhoods, and the soul of our community,' said Milpitas Mayor and State Senate candidate Carmen Montano in a statement.

'We will not stand by while violence and fear take root. I join my fellow leaders in demanding swift justice and real solutions.'

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan also weighed in, calling the assault 'deeply troubling.'

'My thoughts are with the victim and his family,' Mahan said. 'We must do more to protect small businesses like Kim Hung Jewelry. These entrepreneurs are the backbone of our community.'

The San Jose Police Department has confirmed it is investigating the incident as an armed robbery.

A spokesperson stated that 'multiple suspects' entered the store after using a vehicle to breach the storefront, and that at least one assailant was armed with a firearm. The suspects fled in multiple vehicles and remain at large.

'No arrests have been made,' a department spokesperson told the San Francisco Chronicle. 'The robbers are unidentified and remain at large.'

The department has not released estimates of the value of stolen merchandise.

The attack comes amid a rise in smash-and-grab thefts across the Bay Area.

City officials are calling for enhanced security measures, including surveillance sharing between neighboring businesses, stronger storefront protections, and increased patrols.

Some MO's never change. Stolen truck, crew with hammers and hoodies. I worked these types of robberies back in the late 70's. This crew was large. They will steal from each other and in the end one of them will get picked up for another crime and make a deal. Thus giving up the other perps.
