$10 MILLION VERDICT IN SCHOOL SHOOTING

By Bob Walsh

Abby Zwerner

Abby Zwerner is not a teacher anymore.

News consumers will almost certainly recall the case of Abby Zwerner.  She was a first grade teacher in Newport News, VA., at the Richneck Elementary School.  She was shot in class and very nearly killed by one of her six-year old students.

She sued, asserting that she told Vice Principal Ebony Parker that she believe the rugrat had a gun in his backpack.  Three other teachers as it turned out told the Vice Principal the same thing.  I am unsure if the fact that all four teachers are White and the student and vice principal are Black had anything to do with the situation or not.  As far as I know nobody is asserting that it did.

In any event the verdict in the civil suit came in on Thursday.  $10 million for Ms. Zwerner.  Parker is also facing criminal charges of felony neglect in the matter.

The principal and the school superintended were also named in the lawsuit but were removed from the action by the judge.

The crumbsnatcher's mother is doing four years for various weapons charges.  The wee tyke removed the gun from mommie's purse so he could take it to school and shoot his teacher.

One of the bullets is still in Zwerner's body, next to her spine.  I am sure the X-ray was very helpful to the jury when considering their verdict.
