Steve Hilton, a Republican candidate for Governor in the
2026 election, has, as promised, filed a federal lawsuit against
Proposition 50.
The suit
is primarily based on population balance within the proposed districts.
It alleges that the proposed districts will, of necessity, not be
properly balanced and therefore can not possibly provide the equal
protection guaranteed to citizens and residents.
He seeks to keep the proposition off the November ballot and to invalidate it if it appears on the ballot and is in fact passed.
Since
the CA State Supreme Court has already punted this issue, twice, it
seems that the federal venue is the only way to get a meaningful, honest
and unbiased judicial review of the incident.
