Dr. Yael Nativ is a sociologist and a dance researcher.
She taught at UC Berkeley in 2022. She was denied rehire at Berkeley
because her department chair asserted that her presence would be
problematic and would "enrage" the pro-Hamas mob at Berkeley. She had
been specifically invited to re-apply. Nativ, who is an Israeli, has
sued Berkeley and the Board of Regents. She is being represented by the
Brandeis Center. The case was filed in state court.
Her
lawyer, Rebecca Harris, asserts that this is a straightforward case of
discrimination and points out that the schools own internal
investigation concluded that she had been discriminated against. She
has it in writing from the university vice-chancellor of Civil Rights
for Whistleblowers and Clery Compliance.
The school is claiming that her rehire is still under review. It has been "under review" since November of last year at least.
I
suspect this case is, or will be, featured prominently in the federal
action against the U C system alleging pervasive anti-Semitism and
intellectual cowardice. (I just made that last one up. It is, however,
appropriate.)

I hope she gets direct deposit because she's going to win a lot of money.
