GONE ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

An inmate charged with murdering his wife takes off after he and nine other prisoners were taken out of a Missouri Ozarks jail to watch a July Fourth fireworks display

The Shannon County jail, located in the Missouri Ozarks town of Eminence, is most accommodating to its inmates. On Friday evening, a sheriff’s deputy took 10 inmates out of the jail to watch a July Fourth fireworks display. All went well until one of the inmates, who was charged with murdering his wife, took off.

Jason McClurg, 32, had been locked up since last May. He had been charged with first degree murder for killing his wife with a spiked Kool-Aid at their home in Winona. Investigators say McClurg mixed a Kool-Aid drink with some prescription drugs last May and got his wife Stephanie, 32, to drink it by telling her their 2-year-old child had made it for her.

McClurg is still at large. I’ll bet there were some real fireworks between the Sheriff and his deputy after the other nine inmates were returned to the jail.
