SHERIFF TOLD COPS NOT WELCOME AT RESTAURANT

By Bob Walsh

Sheriff Will Reichardt of Skagit County, WA, posted a very interesting piece on FaceBook due to an interesting conversation in a restaurant.

The Sheriff says he was told by the owner of a local eatery, the Lucky Teriyaki in Sedro-Wooley, that police officers were no longer welcome in that establishment. Allegedly this was due to the fact that their presence made the other customers uncomfortable.

The Sheriff had his chief deputy contact the owner to make sure that the information he heard was correct. The owner of the restaurant confirmed his request, but also requested that the S. O. “spread the word” to other law enforcement agencies in the area.

The story does not end there. It seems that the family that runs the Lucky Teriyaki (there seems to be some problem between the concepts of “owns” and “runs” in the news story I am taking this from) asserts that the whole issue was due to a “language barrier.” It seems that the original “bugger off” request was given by the owner’s son, who allegedly does not speak real great English. The contact made Thursday evening was by the father, whose English skills are somewhat better. Allegedly the father/owner actually broke down during his conversation and offered free grub to the local constabulary.

The father/owner spoke extensively, thru an interpreter, to KCPQ television in Sea-Tac about the incident. The family has received threats over the incident.
