PG&E ACTUALLY DOES SOMETHING SMART

by Bob Walsh

PG&E has announced that, as the city of Paradise is being rebuilt, ALL of the utility distribution systems will be put underground. This will eliminate the need for power poles (which in some cases had fallen and blocked roads, preventing people from evacuating) and will prevent falling trees, drunk drivers, etc. from messing up power distribution. Plus it looks nicer.

I live in an area where all the utilities are underground and it really does help. I don't know what the cost factor is, but since they have to replace a buttload of gas pipes anyway I suspect the incremental cost is not going to be all that high.
