OFF DUTY COP RAT-PACKED AT A CALIFORNIA MALL

by Bob Walsh

This mess occurred at about 8 p.m. at the Bay Street Mall in Emeryville, CA. This is a community in the East Bay area. A 24-year old woman was attempting (unwisely) to retrieve her stolen cell phone when she was attacked by a mob. An off-duty CHP officer attempted to assist her and he was assaulted, stomped and choked to unconsciousness by the mob of about 8-10 older juveniles. The officer did manage to pepper spray one of the juveniles. It is not reported whether or not the officer had his firearm with him.

Two juveniles who were positively identified as participants were arrested on suspicion of assault intended to create GBI and battery causing SBI. The two arrested were from Oakland. The arrestees are 14 and 16.

By themselves they aren't very likely to attack. Roving packs of trouble.
