U.C. Davis is a pretty mellow, almost bucolic place. It is often said that the city has the largest percentage of bicycles per capita of any decent size city n the country. It also has violence.
In the very early hours of today a manhunt kicked off after the third serious stabbing attack in less than a week. The two previous victims died. This morning's victim is a homeless woman who is in critical condition. A shelter-in-place order went out to the university from the UC Davis police at about 1:00 a.m. The manhunt was not successful. A suspect was spotted fleeing the area but that suspect eluded the constabulary. The search including K-9s and police drones.
This morning's victim was stabbed repeatedly from the outside of her tent thru the tent material. The suspect is described as a light-complexion male between about 5-6 and 5-9 with a thin build and carrying a brown backpack.
The two previous victims were David H. Breaux, 50, and Karim Abou Najim, 20, and U.C. Davis student. They were murdered in parks in the city of Davis. The university has said that classroom attendance has dropped substantially in the last few days, apparently due to fear caused by the attacks.
