Going thru life believing that, since you are a decent
person nothing bad will happen to you is wishful thinking. You might be
lucky, but you might not be. You need to pay attention to what is
going on in the world around you if you are a person. Same thing if you
are a country. If you fail in the "eternal vigilance" department you
may end up with your enemies doing you a great harm because they think
they can get away with it and they believe you stand in the way of their
goals, whatever those goals may be. If all goes well you will win the
fight but the cost may be very dear indeed.
A
very smart guy once said that if you wish to ensure peace you should
prepare for war. Old Publius Flavius Renatus was a bright guy. It is
hard to see a punch coming if your head is up your ass.
EDITOR'S NOTE: 82 years ago today, the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor in a sneak attack that would change the world. Unfortunately, this momentous event has faded from the minds of most Americans. To their shame and the shame of educators, our younger generations don't seem to know or care about December 7, 1941.
