Shot dead: Terrorists Elton Simpson (L) and Nadir Soofi (R)

Nine years ago, two homegrown ISIL terrorist came to Garland to stop the Draw the Prophet competition.

They were confronted on the perimeter by an off-duty Traffic officer with SWAT training. He engaged them with virtually no cover. They had AK rifles. He shot both of them with a .45 and disabled them until a GPD SWAT QRF could arrive and dead check them.

There was a real fear that they were wearing explosives or could set them off in their car. (which was later blown up by GPD EOD.)

A GISD security officer was wounded.

Gregory Stevens - Medial of Honor 2

GPD Officer Greg Stevens is a hero. He was later awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor by President Barack Obama. Greg has since retired.

Good guys won that day.

If they have half a chance and proper administrative support the good guys often win.
