DID THE BABY REALLY DIE OF AN ACCIDENT OR WAS IT MURDER?

Texas lawmakers rally behind woman convicted of killing baby in light of ‘new evidence’

A bipartisan group of Texas lawmakers has come out in support of a mother on death row for killing her daughter, asking that the woman’s execution be delayed or canceled due to “new evidence.”

The 83 Texas legislators signed a letter in support of Melissa Lucio, who is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on April 27 for the death of her toddler daughter, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The two-year-old girl, Mariah, died from blunt force trauma in 2007, reports the Texas Tribune.

Lucio was questioned by cops after investigators discovered a bite mark along with scratches and bruises on the girl’s body.

During police interrogation, Lucio admitted to biting and spanking Mariah. Cameron County prosecutors used that statement to secure a conviction even though the mother of 14 children insisted the death was an accident.

In their letter, 83 Republican and Democrat members of the Texas House of Representatives asked the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to consider “new evidence” that shows a crime was never committed.

“Mariah died after a tragic accident rather than an intentional capital murder,” the letter states without specifying what the new evidence is. “Ms. Lucio’s case is one that gives even the strongest death penalty proponents among us pause.”

Lucio was convicted on Tuesday for the Feb. 17, 2007 beating death of her 2 1/2-year-old daughter Mariah Alvarez .Melissa Lucio was convicted in 2007 for beating her 2 1/2-year-old daughter Mariah Alvarez to death

The Innocence Project of Texas, part of Lucio’s defense team, claims Mariah fell down the stairs a few days before her death at the family’s Harlingen, Texas apartment.

Lawmakers cite the sentencing disparities between Lucio and her husband, who also went to prison after Mariah’s death.

“Unlike Ms. Lucio, who had no documented history of violence towards her children, her husband had a history of assaultive behavior but is now a free man after serving a four-year sentence for child endangerment,” write the politicians.

Lucio’s remaining children, including twins who were born while she was in jail, have been sent to live with relatives or placed in child protective services, according to the Texas Tribune. One of her sons spoke at a rally in Austin over the weekend, asking for clemency.

“She’s a great mother. She’s not a perfect mother. We all have imperfections. Half of me believes that she’s already saved, but then there’s also that other half that is scary still,” her son John told KXAN.

If the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles agrees to a stay of execution or a different sentence, it would still be up to Gov. Greg Abbott to accept the recommendation. The governor can also delay an execution for 30 days without a recommendation by the parole board.

If executed, Lucio would be the first Hispanic woman to be put to death by Texas.

A Texas woman is facing jail time on charges she shared a naked video of another woman without her consent, according to court papers.

Julissa Castillo is accused of sharing the clip — which shows the victim coming out of the shower with her nipple and buttocks exposed — with the “intent to harm” her, an indictment filed in Cameron County said.

The video, which was made public in September 2020 without the victim’s permission, clearly shows the woman’s face.

The victim shared the video with Castillo, the indictment said, though she thought it would remain private.

The document doesn’t explain how the two women know each other or where or how the video was released.

The court document said the victim was embarrassed and had her reputation hurt by the release of the video.

Castillo, 20, of Brownsville, Texas, was indicted in June 2021 and pleaded not guilty. She remains out on bond pending her trial in May. She faces up to two years behind bars, if convicted.

Castillo’s previous criminal history includes multiple arrests for assault, including three that were dismissed, reports KXAN. She’s the defendant in a second trial stemming from a 2019 assault charge.

Castillo’s attorney did not immediately return The Post’s return for comment.

KOWTOWING TO THE AYATOLLAHS

Netanyahu: Why is the West ‘Kowtowing’ to a Theocratic Regime?

Have the defenders of freedom and democracy met their match in the religious fanatics of Tehran?

Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had Obama and now Biden eating out of his hands

Benjamin Netanyahu gestures as he delivers a speech to supporters following the announcement of exit polls in Israel's general election in Jerusalem (24 March 2021)

Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the approach taken to Iran by the Biden Administration is "absurd."

Israel’s leaders are not pleased about the Iran nuclear agreement emerging from the current talks in Vienna. But none is so incredulous as former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who dedicated much of his foreign policy efforts to curbing Tehran’s atomic ambitions.

Amid reports that the new, or rather renewed Iran nuclear deal will still enable the Islamic Republic to attain nuclear weapons in the near future, Netanyahu warned that the ayatollahs can now “take the world hostage.”

As other Israeli experts have explained previously, it’s not just the threat of Iran actually firing nuclear missiles at Israel or another enemy. The mere possession of nuclear weapons by Iran will tip the balance of power in the Middle East and facilitate Iranian aggression in other ways, in addition to sparking a regional nuclear arms race.

“Once you have a predatory, and especially in a rogue theocratic regime like this, have nuclear weapons, they can use them in two ways: One, they can threaten you directly with atomic bombs. Secondly, they have a nuclear umbrella, which is … to threaten you with conventional weapons like regular missiles or terrorists or anything else,” Netanyahu expounded in an interview with Fox News.

Netanyahu went on to recall that as prime minister he took the “unusual step” of bypassing the White House and taking his grievances over the previous Iran nuclear deal directly to Congress.

At the time, President Joe Biden was Vice President to Barak Obama. According to Netanyahu, Biden is making an even bigger mistake than his previous boss.

Obama kowtowed to the Ayatollahs and now Biden is doing the same thing

The deal emerging from the Vienna talks would permit Iran to continue enriching uranium in limited quantities, but would not take any direct measures to prevent it from scaling up enrichment when the duration of the agreement ends. Additionally, the Islamic Republic’s frozen assets will be released, and America and other Western powers will offer additional concession, such as possibly removing the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps. from lists of recognized terrorist organizations.

“This is the kowtowing of the democratic world — unfortunately, of the rest of the world — to this rogue regime, giving it both the weapons of mass death, an enormous pile of cash to boot,” stated an outraged Netanyahu. “It just doesn’t make sense.”

Israeli journalist wonders why current government is now taking credit for sidelining the Palestinian leadership

Clueless Biden (L-R), ousted Netanyahu and delusional Abbas

By the numbers the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is minor relative to other similar situations around the world. And yet, it has for decades been one of the world’s top foreign policy issues. That’s true for the West, for the United Nations, and most especially for the Arab world.

It wasn’t until Benjamin Netanyahu came along that the Palestinian issue was put in more proper perspective among the nations of the Middle East. Such was acknowledged by none other than Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in a private conversation with Israeli Arab lawmakers back in 2019.

Of course, in Abbas’ view Netanyahu’s meddling was unfair. He complained that “there has never been a leader in Israel who so weakened us before the Arab world like Netanyahu.”

So reported prominent Israeli Arab journalist Mohammed Magadli.

Magadli’s Twitter post came in response to claims by some in the current Israeli government that they should be credited with sidelining the Palestinians. But Magadli pointed out that even the Palestinians themselves admit it was Netanyahu who did so.

It was indeed notable that the Palestinians were left out of this week’s historic summit in the Negev, which saw the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt come to the Jewish state to sit down with our own foreign minister, Yair Lapid.

It was yet another sign that the old thinking according to which there could be no broad peace and stability in the Middle East without first “solving” the Palestinian issue was completely wrong.

And it was indeed Netanyahu who on numerous occasions noted that it was Israel’s strength, not its willingness to surrender to Palestinian demands, that would ultimately bring peace between the Jewish state and its neighbors.

TWO WEEKS AGO, THE PLO DECLARED IT WOULD WITHDRAW ITS RECOGNITION OF ISRAEL'S RIGHT TO EXIST

Palestinians’ new threat against Israel proves only their fading influence

IN THE EARLY 80S, TREY RUSK WAS ONE OF ONLY THREE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATORS TO COVER THE 2,500 SQARE MILES OF MATAGORDA COUNTY. HERE IS HIS ACCOUNT OF A MURDER HE INVESTIGATED

By Trey Rusk

Trey Rusk (L) with the editor of BarkGrowlBite in 2015

In Matagorda County in the early 80's there were three investigators to cover 2500 square miles.  I was one of them.  Every third week one investigator was on call for the entire county.  Things were pretty simple back then.  You did your job with the knowledge and tools that were available.

One case that I worked on involved a Mexican killer who worked at cotton gins across Texas.  I had a decomposed body found in a drainage ditch outside of Palacios.  The crime scene took several days of back breaking work in the South Texas heat.  I would pick up a trusty and shovels at the jail so the dirt could be sifted through screens.  There was no crime scene unit. Bones had been scattered by scavengers.  I took the 35 mm photographs and had them processed at a local drug store.  We found a .22 bullet in the dirt near the skull.  The skull was intact with a small hole in the top/rear.  Hay bailing wire was found nearby.  I took it to the DPS crime lab in Austin for facial reconstruction.

The romantic ride.  I stopped by my home and asked Denise if she wanted to go to Austin, spend the night and have dinner on the counties dime?  She took our two kids to her mother's house and when she returned, I picked her up in a marked county pickup truck.  About halfway there, I stopped for gas.  She needed to go into the store.  I pumped the gas.  When she returned, I asked her to stay with the truck and the body while I was inside.  "Body?"  Well, I can tell you she had a lot to say when I returned.  Overall, though, it was a nice trip.

Tests came back nearly a year later, and it was confirmed that he had been killed by a bullet in the back of the head, execution style.  I placed the pictures of the reconstructed face of the dead man around the stores in Palacios.

I should point out that there was no internet or DNA data base available to assist investigators.  However, The Texas DPS produced a bulletin and would allow individual agencies to post cases.  The bulletin was mailed out to each law enforcement agency in the state.

Shortly after putting up the victim's picture from the crime lab, Hispanic Constable Freddy Garcia from Palacios called me and identified the man as being Juan Martin (Marteen) through co-workers.   Constable Garcia wrote a letter for me to the family to let them know we were working on the case.    The dead man was a young illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Race played a factor in law enforcement 40 years ago.  The Hispanic community would not contact me a white investigator directly. They would only contact their Hispanic Constable, Freddy Garcia.  It was the same with Blacks.  The Sheriff had a couple of Black deputies that would deal with the Black Community.

I had a suspect.  Witnesses had seen an older Mexican man yelling and beating the young man near the cotton gin and then shortly after the assault the young man disappeared.   My suspect was an older Mexican man that worked as a foreman at cotton gins across the state.  He had a tell-tale handicap of a stiff finger on his left-hand index finger.  This finger was made fun of by other workers on a job.  Consequently, his alias was "Stiff Finger."  I sent out an update on The DPS Crime Bulletin.

I got a hit.  It turns out that "Stiff Finger" had several Hispanic aliases and to be honest, back then nobody really paid much attention to a Mexican Wet-Back Laborer.  He said his given name was Jose Garza.  He was doing time for murder out of Mexia.

                                                                      George Beto Unit

It's a small world.  Without the internet cases could drag on for lack of information.  So, it was a couple of months later that I received a call from Warden Joe Walker.  He had an inmate at the George Beto Unit outside of Palestine that went by the alias, "Stiff Finger."  It turns out that I had worked for Warden Walker in 1975 as a C/O in Huntsville.  Warden Joe Waker ran a tight ship.  Interestingly enough, he was also the son in law of "Walking George Beto."  Warden Joe Walker mailed me a picture and all the information that TDC had on "Stiff Finger."

I took the picture of "Stiff Finger" to the Palacios Constable Freddy Garcia and we had a solid match from the cotton gin owner and two employees.

Nearly two years after getting the on-call case, I went to the Sheriff and told him about the lead and I needed a little traveling money to go to Palestine.  The next day, I was on my way.

Palestine is a beautiful area of the state.  Lots of history of Comanche Raids and early Texas justice.  I checked into a Motel not far from the Beto Unit.

The next day I was having early coffee with Joe Walker.  Joe was just as I remembered him.  Starched jeans, Ostrich Quill Boots and TDC Leather Belt.  We talked about Wynne Farm in Huntsville and the escape.

The escape had to do with typing pool.  Before computers, inmates typed all the vehicle registrations.  They were marched from the prison on a quarter mile 8' high fenced sidewalk with razor wire on both sides.  There was no way you could scale that fence without a foot hold.  Shift change at the typing pool came at 2pm and day shift left the building and was racked up, then the evening shift began the walk.  The typing pool worked 24 hours a day.  Joe Walker had always told us to look for things out of place because convicts thought about getting out 24 hours a day and C/O's worked 8 hour shifts.  At 2:15 pm just before the last convict was in the typing pool door, a convict jumped on the door knob and because he was wearing a winter state issued coat, sort of rolled over the razor wire without a scratch.  C/O's were hollering but number 1 picket wasn't paying attention because he thought they were all inside.  By the time he opened fire the convict had covered 80 yards of plowed field running toward the highway and a waiting vehicle.  The C/O shot 10 rounds and didn't even hit the car.  Joe Walker came storming out of his office and yelled, "You're fired!"  The convict was found in New Orleans a week later.  What I learned was the C/O's father, a retired C/O called Joe Walker and gave him a sob story about his son being a good boy with a wife and 4 kids.  I heard Joe Walker put him back to work at night watching livestock with trusties.  That meant mainly Hogs probably until he could retire.  I'm really surprised that  Big Boss, W.J. Estelle let him stay on.

Anyway, Warden Joe Walker sent for Jose "Stiff Finger" Garza to be placed in a non-camera interrogation room.

I entered the room and asked the convict, Jose "Stiff Finger" Garza if he knew why I was there.  He refused to speak to me.

I asked for a C/O to come into the room and I pulled a 35mm camera from my brief case.  The C/O was a huge man.  I took a couple of head shots. Jose "Stiff Finger" Garza became uncooperative.  Upon my request, the C/O stripped him down naked and I began taking pictures of him.  This was a long humiliating process.  At one point, I said, "There it is!" then took 5 shots.  Then I took photos of the bottoms of his feet and told the C/O, I got what I needed.   "Stiff Finger" stared at me with hatred in his eyes.  I told him that he would be hearing from the State's Attorney soon.  I left him standing naked.

I stopped and thanked Warden Joe Walker for his help.

Jose "Stiff Finger" Garza was found less than a month later dead in his cell.  In my opinion, he took his own life.  We will never know because back then, just like in all Texas Penitentiaries a Justice of the Peace is called and without any indicators of foil play the convict is pronounced dead of natural causes.

It is my opinion that Jose "Stiff Finger" Garza was a Serial Killer.  Preying on young Mexican Laborers.  I will never know how many people he killed, but I know he won't kill anyone else.

Case Cleared.
Matagorda County Sheriff's Office

Constable Freddy Garcia wrote the family of Juan Martin and told them the case had been solved and the number one suspect was dead.

OH MY GOD, IT'S GONE

Teens stole a restored 1956 Chevrolet convertible while its owner was waiting for ice cream

                              Restored 1956 Chevrolet convertible

The proud owner of a magnificent 1956 Chevrolet convertible, wrote to say he had restored the car to perfection over the last few years, and sent this...

On a very warm summer afternoon he decided to take his car to town.  It needed gas, as the gauge was practically on empty, but he wanted ice cream, so he headed first to his favorite ice cream shop.

He had trouble finding a parking space and had to park the car down a side street.   He noticed a group of young guys standing around smoking cigarettes and eyeing my car rather covetously.  He was a bit uneasy leaving it there, but people often take interest in such an old and well-preserved car, so he went off to enjoy his ice cream.

The line at the ice cream shop was long and it took him quite a while to return to his car.  When he did, his worst fears were realized… his car was gone.

He called the police and reported the theft and then went back and bought a quart of pistachio ice cream.  About ten minutes later the police called him to say they had found the car abandoned near a gas station a few miles out of town.

It was unharmed and he was relieved.  It seems just before he called, the police had received a call from a young woman who was an employee at a self-service gas station.  She told them that three young men had driven in with this beautiful old convertible.  One of them came to the window and prepaid for 20 dollars worth of gas.

Then all three of them walked around the car.  Then they all got in the car and drove off, without filling the tank.

The question is, why would anybody steal a car, pay for gas that they never pumped and then abandon the car later and walk away?

So, what do you think?  Was Smith justified?  Officially the Academy "deplores" personal violence in the real world.  Will they jerk Smith's Oscar?  (Personally I doubt it.)  Will somebody apologize?  Will they both apologize?  Does anybody care?

GENERAL ERIC ADAMS IS GOING TO LEAD NYPD COPS INTO BATTLE

Eric Adams says NYC has become ‘a laughingstock’ as crime surges

New York Post

Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday that the Big Apple has become “a laughingstock” as it grapples with surging crime and homelessness — and claimed he’s the “wartime general” who can fix it.

Color illustration of George Washington charging atop a white horse during a battle of the American Revolution."I’m a wartime general," Hizzoner told his cops. "I’m going to be at the front line with you. I’m going to lead you into battle."

Hizzoner pointed to separate shootings last week that injured a 7- and 3-year-old as he decried the wild gun violence he’s been trying to tame.

“It’s just not OK to leave a daycare center with your baby and hear gunshots, or walk across Kings Highway with your 7-year-old and hear shots,” Adams said at the annual NYPD Holy Name Society communion mass and breakfast at the Midtown Hilton, referring to the pair of Brooklyn shootings.

He also bemoaned the spike in petty crime and homelessness as contributing factors.

“Anything goes in the city of New York,” he said. “The most important city on the globe has become the laughing stock of the globe. And the dysfunctionality of our city has cascaded throughout the entire country. And the audacity that someone comes along and says, ‘I want to be your mayor,’ and simply says, ‘Follow the rules, follow the rules.’

'Anything goes in the city of New York,' Adams said Sunday at the annual NYPD Holy Name Society communion mass and breakfast. The event was attended by 500 police officers                 “It’s just not OK to leave a daycare center with your baby and hear gunshots,” Mayor Eric Adam said at the annual NYPD Holy Name Society communion mass

“It’s called swiping a Metrocard. If you don’t have enough to pay the fare, there’s a process that you can get the help that you deserve,” he continued. “Or if you go into a drugstore, do what my neighbor does — pay for what you want.”

Homeless vagrants have flooded city subway stations and streets in recent months, with dozens of random attacks on straphangers and tourists alike — some fatal.

Last week, The Post reported that 2,500 sorely needed units for mentally ill homeless New Yorkers have been left vacant due to a bureaucratic snafu — even as more cops have been sent into the transit system to reel them in.

Adams, a retired NYPD captain who sources said is weighing using drones to fight crime, also rallied the roughly 500 cops in attendance to reclaim the streets of their city.

“Don’t let anyone break your spirit, tell you that New Yorkers don’t love the men and women of the NYPD,” the mayor said. “Everywhere I go they say, ‘Protect our police.’ Ignore the noise. Ignore Instagram, social media. Facebook.

“Ignore all of that because the people of the city are watching,” he said. “The people of their city want their city back.”

A man sleeps in a subway car.Homeless vagrants have flooded city subway stations and streets in recent months

In a bizarre comparison, he likened the state of the city to a high school science experiment where a frog is placed in water that is slowly brought to a boil — and remains in the water until it dies.

“Let’s acknowledge that the heat is being turned up,” he said. “We want to turn it down so we don’t watch our city boil to death.”

Adams told the NYPD audience that he will do his best to boost morale.

“There are wartime and peacetime generals. I’m a wartime general,” he said. “I’m going to be on the front line. Those of you in transit, I’m in the subway system at 2, 3 a.m. with you. I’m going to your precincts. I’m going to call you up when you make those arrests.

“I’m not sending you to the front line and leaving you there,” he added. “I’m going to be at the front line with you. I’m going to lead you into battle.”

THE UN APPEARS TO BE OBSESSED WITH ERASING ISRAEL

Israel Furious After UN Says ‘Invalid’ to Call Jerusalem Its Capital

“This impertinent demand of the UN…is in fact a request to rewrite Israel’s history and we will not agree to that in any way”

Israel Today

March 25, 2022

The Knesset might be located in Jerusalem, but according to the UN the city is not Israel's capital, nor apparently should it be seen as sacred to the Jewish people. The Knesset might be located in Jerusalem, but according to the UN the city is not Israel's capital, nor apparently should it be seen as sacred to the Jewish people

Israel was outraged on Thursday when the United Nations demanded it remove from a planned exhibition all references to Jerusalem as the sacred capital of the Jewish nation.

Speaker of the Knesset Mickey Levy is scheduled to meet next week with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the world body’s headquarters in New York. Israel requested that the visit be accompanied by a small exhibit celebrating the history of the Knesset. The exhibit was previously displayed at Ben Gurion Airport.

The UN apparently agreed to the request, but sent a list of instructions telling Israel to remove various references to Jerusalem at the united, undisputed and eternal capital of the Jewish state.

The Knesset has stood in Jerusalem since 1966. The dedication was attended by state leaders, dignitaries and elected officials, as well as the heads of 44 parliaments

Of particular concern to the UN was the exhibit board that deals with the passing of the quasi-constitutional Basic Law: Jerusalem passed in 1980 that officially annexed the eastern half of the city and declared Jerusalem to be Israel’s eternal capital.

The UN instructions ask Israel to “please erase slide 43: According to relevant General Assembly and Security Council decisions, the Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel, is not valid from our point of view. This is a most sensitive issue and the information in the slide contradicts international law.”

The UN also took issue with another slide that describes Jerusalem as “the eternal capital of the Jewish people and their holy city.”

According to the UN, “this quote is not relevant to the picture and its erasure will help prevent contradictions with international law and political sensitivities.”

Israel Channel 12 News reported that Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, issued a scathing response: “The impertinent demand of the UN to censor the exhibit and remove pictures that reflect our national history is in fact a request to rewrite Israel’s history and we will not agree to that in any way.”

Knesset Speaker Levy has also reportedly said he will not bring the exhibit if the UN insists on censoring Jewish history in the Holy Land.

Bottom line: The Palestinians speak openly and freely at the UN about the “rich culture” of a nation that has never existed in the annals of history – a work of pure fiction – while the Jews are forbidden to present facts well-documented in many forms, not least of which in the pages of the most widely circulated book on earth – the Bible!

Christians should at the very least be highly critical of this, if not outright incensed alongside the Jewish people. By denying, or at best calling into question the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, the UN is denying or calling into question the validity of the New Testament, which speaks frequently of Jewish Jerusalem.

ISRAEL THREATENED BY REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMAN

Israel Better Side With US Against Russia, Or Else, Warns Congressman

Anti-Trump Republican lawmaker suggests American military aid to Israel could be in jeopardy

By Ryan Jones

Like a growing number of congressmen, US Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) isn't happy about Israel failing to join the West in sanctioning Russia. Like a growing number of congressmen, US Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) isn't happy about Israel failing to join the West in sanctioning Russia

With US President Joe Biden escalating his rhetoric against Russia and its leader, Vladimir Putin, it’s becoming increasingly precarious for Israel to maintain its quasi-neutrality over the invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered harsh criticism during his address to the Knesset via Zoom, openly wondering why Israel was refraining from going as far as the rest of the West in aiding Ukraine.

Zelensky’s speech, and in particular his repeated references to the Holocaust, was immediately panned by Israeli politicians.

But the Ukrainian leader’s bitter words for Israel did strike a chord with some in the US Congress, which Zelensky had addressed a week prior, among them Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Il.)

Kinzinger will likely be familiar to most as one of the more outspoken critics of former President Donald Trump from within the Republican Party. Nor is he shy about laying into perhaps America’s closest ally in the world: Israel.

“Really good questions of Israel,” Kinzinger tweeted in response to Zelensky’s scathing remarks to the Knesset. “Israel’s reaction to Ukraine will have bearing on future aid from the US to Israel. Pay it forward,” he added, suggesting that the annual $6 billion in military aid that Israel receives from the US could be in jeopardy.

Kinzinger’s position didn’t sit well with many Republicans, and he faced a wave of criticism. But that only caused him to double down, as he explained in a follow-up Twitter thread:

“Thread on Israel: so i grabbed the third rail of foreign policy today, as I said Israel needs to pick a side, and that future aid could be at stake. I want to double down on this, let me explain.

“I deeply support our relationship with Israel. But supporting friends doesn’t mean we look past differences. We have stood with Israel and will continue to do so.

“But at the moment there is a battle between Good and Evil, between a world based on raw power or one based one the post WW2 rules. Everyone must pick a side. The outcome of this fight will impact the world my son grows up in, and now is the time to call anyone to the carpet who does not do their utmost.

“If we don’t want to directly attack Russia, then our leverage is in the world uniting in sanctions and assistance for the people of Ukraine. This includes everyone, and Israel doesn’t have a special exemption. Hopefully they will do the right thing.”

Mounting discontent

The daily newspaper Israel Hayom reported on Sunday that the government in Jerusalem has been quietly scrambling to minimize damage to US-Israel relations over its stance on the Russia-Ukraine war.

While Kinzinger has been outspoken in his criticism, there are a number of other prominent names in the Republican Party who are likewise displeased with Israel’s position, among them powerful senators like Lindsay Graham and Ted Cruz.

Thus far their discontent has only been expressed on the sidelines to pro-Israel elements in Washington. But the longer the war drags on, and the longer Israel tries to play an unbiased mediating role, the bigger the chance that Israel could face bi-partisan hostility on Capitol Hill.

Israel will ultimately side with America

There was already concern toward the beginning of this conflict that efforts to remain quasi-neutral could jeopardize Israel’s standing in Washington. At the time, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stressed that in the end, Israel will always side with America.

“It is natural for Israel to stand with the United States,” Lapid told Channel 12 News in late February.

He was immediately echoed by a chorus of fellow Israeli government officials.

“In the end, if we ever have to choose a side, we will choose the American side,” stressed the chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Ram Ben-Barak

“Obviously in this story our heart is on one side – with the Americans,” added Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai. “We know where we stand on the international map. The history of the State of Israel and the United States are closely intertwined and our values and interests align. Our heart is in the direction of the United States.”

So what’s the hold-up?

So why is Israel willing to risk souring relations with the US in order to maintain some semblance of neutrality by not joining sanctions against Russia?

As we’ve reported previously, it boils down to three points:

  1. Israel must retain freedom of operation against Iranian forces and their proxies in Syria, which is by-and-large controlled at present by the Russian military. Doing so requires staying on Moscow’s good side.
  2. Both Ukraine and Russia still host large Jewish populations that Israel is wary of having become targets of local hostility should the Jewish state take one side or the other. Both countries have a history of anti-Jewish pogroms.
  3. Jerusalem continues to believe that it can do the most good by bringing a swift end to the conflict through diplomacy, and Israel is one of the few actors on the world stage able to play this role due to its good relations with both sides.

WILL BIDEN'S MOUTH BLUNDER INTO WAR?

Biden is slammed for mistakenly saying Putin 'cannot remain in power' - while experts warn that despite frantic White House efforts to clean up the mess - the Kremlin will have 'got the message'

President Biden walks out on stage to give his remarks about overthrowing Putin. 'For god's sake this man cannot remain in power,' he said of Putin at the Royal Castle in Warsaw

President Joe Biden's call for Vladimir Putin to be removed from power is setting off alarm bells among US foreign policy experts, who fear that it could escalate tensions even the Kremlin scales back its war aims in Ukraine.

'For God's sake this man cannot remain in power,' Biden said in a shocking apparent call for regime change in Moscow at the end of a impassioned speech from Poland on Saturday.

The unscripted remark, which the White House scrambled to walk back as the Kremlin expressed fury, came at the end of an otherwise resolute and fiery speech rallying the free world to unite in opposition to autocracy and support of Ukraine.

Richard Haass, the Council on Foreign Relations president, tweeted his concerns that Biden had 'just expanded US war aims, calling for regime change.'

'However desirable it may be, it is not within our power to accomplish-plus runs risk it will increase Putin's inclination to see this as a fight to the finish, raising odds he will reject compromise, escalate, or both,' wrote Haass.

'Our interests are to end the war on terms Ukraine can accept & to discourage Russian escalation. Today's call for regime change is inconsistent with these ends,' he added.

Biden's remark could also diminish Putin's interest in compromise and increase his temptation to escalate in Ukraine, 'because if he believes he has everything to lose then he'll believe he has nothing to lose,' Haass said.

Haass went on to tell Politico that a senior Biden official, possibly even Secretary of State Antony Blinken, needs to reach out to their Russian counterpart immediately and explain that Biden's comment doesn't reflect US policy.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov quickly denounced Biden, saying 'it´s not up to the president of the U.S. and not up to the Americans to decide who will remain in power in Russia.'

Biden's alarming off-the-cuff remark comes just 24 hours after the White House rushed to clarify other awkward remarks from the president suggesting that US troops would deploy, and had already deployed, to Ukraine.

DELIVERANCE FROM A CRISIS BY HIGH-FLYING ROBOCOPS

Eric Adams considering using drones to fight NYC crime, sources say

Mayor Eric Adams is mulling a mini-army of drones to fight surging crime in the Big Apple — possibly deploying the high-flying robocops from rooftops as watchful guardians of Gotham, sources told The Post.

Tel Aviv-based Blue White Robotics and Easy Aerial of Brooklyn were two drone manufacturers featured earlier this month at an event to launch a NYC-Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Incoming mayor of New York City Eric Adams said he will be traveling to Ghana to fulfill a promise he made to himself following the 400 anniversary of slavery in America         Mayor Eric Adams' was so impressed with a joint presentation by Blue White Robotics and Easy Aerial that he is mulling a mini-army of drones to fight surging crime in the Big Apple — possibly deploying the high-flying robocops from rooftops

Adams attended the gathering in the Williamsburg Hotel, and sources said the mayor was so impressed with the joint presentation that he suggested his chief technology officer Matthew Fraser and the firms’ honchos begin talks about the city potentially buying drones and expanding the NYPD’s use of them.

“Eric is a big booster of drones and how they can be used to streamline government function, but obviously whatever he would try to roll out would be constrained” under existing laws limiting drone use, said a source familiar with the mayor’s thinking.

The drone makers – whose clients include the US Department of Defense, Air Force and Customs and Border Protection – say they’ve dubbed the plan the “Soteria Project,” derived from a Greek word meaning “deliverance from a crisis.”

Their motto: “an eye in the sky in zero time.”

Ido Gur, who heads Easy Aerial, said the city could respond to crimes anywhere in Manhattan in under a minute by deploying just 10 of his drones.

They cost about $70,000 to $100,000 apiece, and include a mini-ground station for take-off, landing and recharging.

“If someone fires a pistol,” the device’s case “will open and the drone will go into automation,” Gur said. “We can be onsite in a few seconds – much faster than 911.”

The aerial cops won’t be weaponized or provide facial recognition, but they’re equipped with thermal cameras allowing for night vision and sensors that can be used for radiation detection and other features.

The feed from the drones could be sent to the NYPD command center or even a cop’s cell phone.

The drones could also be used to prevent crime. Cops monitoring them could remotely set off flashing lights on the drones and issue voice warnings over its speakers — such as “Move away!” to a potential perpetrator.

Gur said Adams told him and Blue White Robotics CEO Ben Alfi he’s “very interested” in putting drones along rooftops in high-crime areas of the city and connecting them to the Police Department’s ShotSpotter gunfire-recognition system.

Gur also said that Adams “promised” to visit his factory, located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, in the coming weeks.

A spokesman for the mayor said Adams “doesn’t discuss private conversations but obviously made no commitments – and would never do so in a casual conversation at an event.”

State Sen. Jessica Ramos (D-Queens) said adding more drones to the NYPD’s fleet would be “irresponsible and invasive.”

“Using taxpayer dollars to buy these surveillance drones while also asking New Yorkers to accept defunded sanitation, education, and human services departments is reprehensible,” she said. “What will it take to make Mayor Adams understand that the very neighborhoods he wants to circle drones over are the ones who are suffering from a lack of investment?”

In December 2018, the NYPD began deploying 14 drones to help assist officers in hostage situations, reaching crime scenes in remote locations, monitoring large crowds and other police business. However, their use was modest at best under former Mayor Bill de Blasio as many of the drones’ documented flights have been for training purposes only.

Easy Aerial has previously provided security during the Super Bowl and has been used by the US to monitor suspicious activity along the Mexican border and also monitor the border along the Gaza Strip for Israel.

Adams interest in buying more drones for the Police Department was first reported by New York Jewish Week.
