Apatzingán.- Peace marches planned for this Sunday in Apatzingán have transformed into a show of public support for La Familia, a statement which the state governemnt has largely denied.

Mayor Genaro Guízar personally attended this rally which began at the Cultural Monument of Glorieta, which was built in the memory of general Lázaro Cárdenas. The march concluded in the plaza de armas of Apatzingán, and among the demonstrators their were signs that showed support for the criminal organization and its founder El Chayo.

Some of the signs read ‘Nazario Lives In All Our Hearts’ y ‘Viva la Familia Michoacana'

Protests began on Friday afternoon when 300 citizens of Apatzingán, began to call for Felipe Calderón to order an immediate exit of the federal police because of alleged "beatings, causualties and other human rights violations." That particular banner was well made and of good quality.

Most of the demonstrators traveled on foot, some in cars and it was people of all ages, men women and children. The demonstrations began noon in the middle of the city and has since blocked all traffic in the area.
