'THE BEST MATH TEACHER HE EVER HAD'

Oh, if I could only have had a math teacher like that.

As for that lucky student, he should have kept his mouth shut and erased his text messages. He’ll never have another math teacher like that.

And Barbara Jeanne? Another teaching career gone down the drain. Since ‘Lucky’ was close to 18, she’ll probably get probation. If not, she can teach math to her fellow prison inmates.

A female teacher at a Washington State school has been arrested and placed on leave after allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old student.

Barbara Jeanne Anderson, 37, was booked into King County Jail last week suspected of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor and was released pending charges after a pupil's mother grew concerned about the math teacher’s relationship with her son.

Court documents also revealed the student had told his uncle he was ‘getting laid by a teacher’.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave and her case is being forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office to be reviewed for possible formal charges.

A police investigation began on March 8 when the pupil’s mother approached staff at Kentlake High School after she discovered an ‘inordinate number of text messages between her son and the teacher’, King County Sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said.

Anderson sent almost 800 text messages to the boy between January 15 and February 21, including more than 100 texts in one 24-hour period.

The boy had transferred into Anderson’s math class in the second semester of his sophomore year and received after-school tutoring from the teacher.

He later described her as ‘the best math teacher he ever had’, wrote Detective Christine Elias in a probable-cause document but the possible extent of their relationship emerged when Anderson called the boy’s home expressing concern for the teen after he broke up with his girlfriend.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Anderson received verbal and written instruction on February 11 to end contact the student but messages between the pair continued.

‘At one point (the student) sent her a text message saying she was beautiful,’ wrote Detective Elias wrote. ‘She sent him a message stating that she was attracted to him.’

Anderson then ‘sent text messages to (the teen) saying that she fantasizes about him and how she wanted him,’ the detective wrote.

‘When the student told (the teacher) that they got a hot tub she sent him a message stating that she would fantasize about that.’

Police allege the math tutor groped the boy in her classroom and later drove him to a housing development near his home where she performed a sex act on him.

The age of consent in Washington is 16 but statutes make exceptions for teachers or other adults in positions of authority to have sexual relations with anyone under 18.

This latest case comes a week after Taryn Fairbanks, 34, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor after admitting having sex with a 17-year-old student last year.
