POLITICAL BLOOPERS

NEWT GINGRICH

During an interview with CBN News Senior Political Correspondent David Brody, Newt admitted that he cheated on his first two wives. One of the women he cheated with is now his third wife. His excuse for cheating: "There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."

Newt, thank you ever so much for giving all of us philandering husbands an excuse. ‘Honey, my love for our country made me do it.’

MICHELE BACHMANN

Speaking to an audience in Manchester, New Hampshire, Bachmann said: “You’re the state where the shot was heard around the world at Lexington and Concord.”

Sorry Michele, but the ‘shot heard ’round the world’ was fired in Massachusetts, not in New Hampshire.

And this leader of the Tea Party Caucus in Congress is a contender to be the Republican candidate who will oppose President Obama. Please, give me a break!

MIKE HUCKABEE

Mike used Academy Award winner Natalie Portman's pregnancy to slam unwed mothers.

Mike told radio host Michael Medved: “One of the things that’s troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, ‘Hey look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married, but we’re having these children, and they’re doing just fine.’ But there aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock.”

Mike was obviously playing to his ‘family values’ followers who make up the Republican base. While I agree with what he said, I’m afraid that is not going to play well with independent voters. And if Huckabee wins the Republican nomination for president, he cannot get elected without the strong support of the independents.

SARAH PALIN

Sarah’s bloopers are too numerous to post on this blog. And her folksy manner of speaking will not be enough to get her elected president.
