The London Gazette was first published, in 1665. It is still published, making it the oldest continuously published journal .
In 1916 Jeannette Rankin (R-Montana) became the first woman elected to congress. The government has gone downhill from then.
In 1967 LBJ signed legislation creating the Public Broadcasting System. At the time it was done, it was a valuable thing. Now, with dozens of channels available even in Armpit, Mississippi, I am unsure it is worth the trouble and expense. But I do like the BBC murder mysteries.
