ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

by Bob Walsh

In 1938 Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) occurred in Nazi Germany. 100 Jews were murdered and thousands injured when attacks were launched on Jewish owned businesses in an effort to force Jews out of Germany.

In 1956 Jean-Paul Sartre, previously an fan of the Soviet Union, denounced Communism as the commie bastards invaded Hungary.

In 1965 the great North East Blackout occurred, plunging most of the N. E. part of the country into darkness. If I remember correctly the whole thing was triggered by one relay failing, leading to a cascade of failures that shut down the whole regional grid.
