President Biden has decided to send 31 Abrams main
battle tanks to the Ukraine. Sort of. The tanks will have to be
specially built or modified to take some of the really super-secret shit
out of them. There is also a LONG learning curve on both the crew and
the maintenance-support people.
Most
tanks use a diesel engine. These things use a turbine. It is a
beautiful piece of equipment but you can't do major maintenance on it in
the middle of a muddy field with a screwdriver and an entrenching
tool. It is expected to take months to bring the Ukraine crews and
maintenance people up to speed.
It
is also unclear what their battlefield survivability would be in an
area where the good guys are clearly behind the 8-ball on air coverage.

The pentagon is now saying six months until delivery.
Maybe the Ukrainians really have the goods on the Biden's. They ask for something and Biden sends it.
