Miami, FL – A retiring longtime Miami police sergeant blasted her department’s administrators during her final radio call on Thursday and told her fellow officers they need to take care of one another because the top brass doesn’t care about them or their families.

Miami Police Department (MPD) Sergeant Madelin Garcia served the department for 33 years, WPLG reported.

As she wrapped up her final shift on Jan. 26, the dispatcher came over the radio to mark the occasion and wish her well in her retirement.

“Sgt. Garcia, it is an honor working with you,” the dispatcher said. “We wish you the very best in your future endeavors. You will be missed.”

But when the sergeant cued up her mic, it quickly became clear she was not pleased with the state of affairs at the agency she spent more than three decades of her life serving.

Sgt. Garcia didn’t pull any punches as she called out MPD Chief Manuel Morales, First Assistant Chief Cherise Gause and her immediate supervisor, Major Daniel Garrido, CBS News reported.

“This place was an amazing department to work for until the backstabbing and personal attacks started from my immediate supervisors and the First,” Sgt. Garcia responded over the police radio. “And if you don’t know who the First is, the First of nothing.”

“To the chief and the First of nothing, you guys are in denial,” she continued. “You think you’re doing an amazing job, but in reality, you have destroyed this police department and the morale, except for your circle, which is definitely took care of.”

Sgt. Garcia said the current administration is even worse than that of former MPD Chief Art Acevedo, who was fired from his post after less than six months.

“I thought that Acevedo was bad, but at least one thing’s for sure, I knew where he was coming from,” she noted. “To the First, you have a nasty attitude. So do yourself a favor and take some interpersonal skill classes so you know how to treat people right.”

“And finally, to my immediate supervisor, Maj. Garrido,” Sgt. Garcia continued. “You are a liar, a snake in the grass, a cancer to this department. The hardest thing of being a female in this department was being surrounded by many males knowing that I was more of a man than you.”

Sgt. Garcia wrapped up her rant by urging her fellow officers to look out for themselves and for one another.

“Please take care of yourself. Back each other up because they don’t care about you, your family,” she said.

Several transmissions followed in response to the retiring sergeant’s message, with many voicing their support for her words.

“You got my vote,” one person said.

“That’s what I’m talkin’ about,” another voice chimed in.

“Ha ha – nice!” commented another.

“You’re my hero,” someone else said.

Miami City Commissioner Manolo Reyes said it is “unfortunate” that Sgt. Garcia aired her grievances so publicly, but noted the issues she mentioned would be looked into by internal affairs, WPLG reported.

“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Reyes told WPLG. “It happened.”

The MPD declined to comment on Sgt. Garcia’s farewell message, according to the news outlet.

“The Miami Police Department is aware of a radio transmission involving a police sergeant,” the MPD said. “We are currently reviewing the incident, therefore no further comment will be made at this time.”

Because Sgt. Garcia officially retired on Thursday night, she will not face any disciplinary actions, according to WPLG.
