COP CHARGED IN OFF-DUTY TRAFFIC DEATHS

By Bob Walsh

CHP investigating on Interstate 5 near Sutterville Road where a Sacramento detective hit and killed two men on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

On Dec. 5th of last year Sac PD detective Jonathon T. Nangle was driving home at about 0600 in his dept issued take-home vehicle when he hit a pickup truck parked on the shoulder of I-5 and two of it's passengers who had dismounted the vehicle and were standing beside it.  The two dismounted passengers, brothers Lionel E. Rodriguez, 32, and Juan C. E. Rodriguez, 33, both of Sacramento, were killed.

Yesterday a warrant was issued for Nangle.  He turned himself in, was processed and released.  The charge is misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.  Nangle is currently on administrative leave with his peace officer powers suspended.

I'll bet texting while driving was involved. They can link his phone activity with the time of the crash. RIP to the victims.

Processed and released, what a joke. Why wasn't he held and brought before a judge for bail?
