The
Minneapolis city council recently voted to require that Uber and Lyft
pay minimum wage to it's drivers as employees. The mayor vetoed it.
The city council over-rode the veto. In response both Uber and Lyft
announced that they would be withdrawing their services from Minneapolis
effective May 1.
Both
companies announced that they are moving to support preemptive state
level legislation that would invalidated the local ordinance.
The ordinance specifically requires that drivers get $1.40 per mile, 51 cents per minute and $5 per ride.
