The formerly great state of California forbids open carry
of firearms. They have, under court pressure, loosened up the previous
often idiotic attitudes towards concealed carry by honest, law-abiding
citizens. However, CA does NOT recognize any level of reciprocity for
out-of-state permits holders and has no mechanism for a non-resident to
apply for a CA carry permit.
That just changed. Maybe.
On
Tuesday Federal District Court Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo issued an
order granting final summary judgment to the Firearms Policy Coalition
and several plaintiffs in the matter of Hoffman v. Bonta. The judge
recognized that US citizens can not be compelled to surrender their
constitutional rights merely because they are traveling from one state
to another.
It is not completely clear what mechanism the state will enact to get with the program, or if they intend to further appeal.
