DAMN DAM CONTRACT

by Bob Walsh

The state let the contract yesterday for the initial repair work for the Oroville dam. Much to my surprise they went with the low bid, the company out of Nebraska, for about $275 million. Since the specification are only about 60% complete there will certainly be contract changes, which will almost certainly mean contract overruns. They have some waivers that will allow them to work around the clock to do the work. The first order of business will probably be replacing the washed-out road so they can move more heavy equipment into the area. Right now would be a good time to own a cement firm in Oroville, or have a commercial truck drivers license.

I don't expect them to actually get the work done by November 1, but a lot of people will earn a lot of money from the attempt.
