There was an armed attack made against the prison in Beni in the Congo on Sunday. The attack killed 11 staff members, mostly guards, and freed 900 prisoners. Only 30 were still left in the prison. Authorities announced curfew in Beni and nearby Butembo so that only the army and police were out and about.
It is suspected that the Allied Democratic Forces, a rebel group founded in Uganda, was behind the attack. That group is one of several dozen semi-organized rebel groups in the eastern Congo.
