There was an interesting track meet in Oregon over the
weekend. One of the competitors in the 100 yard hurdles was a young
woman, a high school junior named Brooklyn Anderson. She was also a
gymnast which no doubt helped out in this particular situation.
She
had a good lead, but tripped on the last hurdle and went head over
heels literally. She apparently figured (correctly I believe from the
film clip on the news) that she did not have enough time to recover in a
conventional fashion so instead continued, finishing her run with an
additional two forward rolls, which took her across the finish line in
first place.
I guess it is
kind of like drag racing. You can cross the line upside down, backwards
and on fire as long as you cross the line first.
