An Alvarado, TX police officer was wounded in what MIGHT
HAVE BEEN a serious attempt to break people out of an ICE detention
facility there.
Just before
11 p.m. on the Fourth of July an Alvarado P D officer spotted a
suspicious person hanging around the Prarieland Detention Facility on
Sunflower Lane in Alvarado. When the officer tried to speak with the
suspicious person other people nearby opened fire on him. The officer
was hit in the neck but fortunately not seriously injured.
Responding officers arrested eight people at the scene. Some were wearing body armor.
Earlier
that night about a dozen people wearing black and wearing masked
vandalized security cameras and vehicles in the parking lot.
The FBI and DHS are aware of the situation and are monitoring the case, as well as others involving ICE detention facilities.
It
is possible some sort of an attempt was going to be made to get into
the facility. It is of course also possible they were just very well
armed vandals who just happened to be wearing body armor.
