Heath Flora, 42, is a member of
the California State Assembly. Last month he became the Republican
leader in the assembly. Dude has some issues.
Flora
represents a huge chunk of the San Joaquin Valley. Under CA law the
"legal domicile" is where he is registered to vote. That used to be
Ripon, a very nice, small, conservative city between Stockton and
Modesto. He sold that home in 2022 and registered to vote at an address
in Modesto, a home his parents own and where they operate a farming
equipment business. It is a tad over 70 miles from Sacramento. He
does, however, not actually LIVE there. He has a home in the Arden
neighborhood of Sacramento. That is where he actually hangs his hat.
Lawmakers
get per diem expenses when the legislature is in session, which is
almost all year. This is considered to be tax free if the legislator
"lives" more than 50 miles from the capitol. His "legal domicile" is
where he lives for these purposes so he gets a shit-ton of expense money
for living in his actual home. Over $40,000 last year. It will
probably hit $50,000 this year.
He
was not paying child support until the court started proceeding to
garnish his pay. He was on the hook for $2k per month total for two
crumb snatchers. (His wife dumped him for playing hide the salami with a
lobbyist.)
Last year Flora
had more than 450 credit card charges over $100 each on his campaign
expenditure report. Most of this was for meals at bars and
restaurants. Those restaurants are in Sacramento. They were called
district meetings. These establishments are NOT in fact in Flora's
district, though his district does in fact include a couple of small
chunks of Sacramento County.
Aren't the voters of California entitled to better representation than this??
